Europe Tour 2018

The 2017-2018 AFLBS Concert Choir will be heading to Central Europe in the spring of 2018. The three-week tour, planned for March 23-April 12, will include stops in the countries of Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany. The primary purposes of the tour are to share the Gospel message through song and testimony and to encourage the body of Christ. The choir will have the opportunity to visit and sing at schools, youth retreat centers, and elderly homes, as well as churches and other historical sites connected to Lutheran history and the Protestant Reformation.

We are grateful for all the churches and individuals who are partnering with us in prayer and financial support.

The 2017-18 AFLBS Choir CD is now available!

“This choir tour is something we’ve been given – an opportunity for students and teachers and pastors to share with others the beautiful, unadulterated gospel of Jesus Christ.

It’s a powerful opportunity. Not because we’re flying to another continent, or singing in foreign churches, or learning bits of Czech and German and Slovak. Not so that in ten years we can think back on this merely as the weeks we traveled in Europe. This tour means something because Jesus means everything, and people all over the world mean everything to Him.”

– Kirstie Schierkolk, AFLBS senior and concert choir member

“I’m excited to travel, certainly; to walk where Luther did, study in multiple countries, and be swallowed up in the huge, hollow quiet of towering cathedrals. But I’m even more excited to meet the Church wherever we go, introducing myself to brothers and sisters who hardly understand me, and eating their food, and mangling their language as they laugh at my attempts.

That’s what I’m most looking forward to about this trip: Being introduced to family I haven’t met, who doesn’t know me, but will love me just the same; being the Body of Christ with members I’ve never known, but who live in the same grace that I do; and worshiping together, awoken by the same gospel, and full of the same life.”

– Seth Skogerboe, AFLBS senior and concert choir member

Letter from Mr. Andrew Hanson, Music Director

Dear Friend in Christ,

Perhaps you have landed on this page because you are a dear friend of a 2017-2018 AFLBS Concert Choir member. Perhaps you have landed on this page because you are interested in our European Choir Tour and are curious how you may be able to help. Either way, thank you for your interest in the life of these young adults and in our upcoming international tour!

We are praying that this year be filled with God’s leading and God’s blessing, and we are looking forward to growing in many ways as we worship Him and share the Gospel through song. One of the exciting opportunities that we have been planning this school year is a three-week tour in Central Europe, March 23-April 12, 2018.

We are extremely grateful to Pastor Don Richman of East European Missions Network (EEMN), as well as Adam Lee (tour planner and guide), for their leadership and vision for this trip. With their help and guidance, plans are underway for the AFLBS Concert Choir, Pr. Joel and Mary-Ann Rolf, and director Andrew Hanson, to fly from Minneapolis to Budapest after classes on March 23. From there we plan to head north by train for a week in Slovakia and continue for a second week in the Czech Republic. In these two formerly conjoined countries, we will give concerts and serve in local ministries with Lutheran congregations. For the final week of the tour, we will move from Prague into Germany, touring many sites from the Reformation. The tour returns from Berlin back to Minneapolis on Thursday, April 12.

Our biggest prayer request is regarding finances. While trying to keep the overall cost of the trip as low as possible, we are asking each student to raise $2,985 in support. We are trusting in God to provide all of our needs according to His riches in glory, and we trust in Him for this expense, too. We do see every tour, especially this one, as an evangelistic mission trip opportunity, and we plan to focus on sharing the Gospel and supporting the body of Christ in these challenging European fields.

Thank you for considering financially supporting our missions trip. Payments made towards the 2018 European Choir Tour Trip will be applied towards your student’s needed support. You may give online here or checks should be written out to “AFLBS” and mailed to the AFLBS office. Please include on memo line: “Europe Tour” and the name of person you’re supporting. If a student is not specified in your donation, the gift will go toward the overall expenses of the tour. All these donations are tax-deductible and the following conditions apply to each gift given toward the tour:

  • The Association Free Lutheran Bible School controls all donations and funds for the 2018 European Choir Tour Trip.
  • If a student, for any reason, is unable to participate in the 2018 European Choir Tour Trip, the funds raised by that student remain with AFLBS and will still go towards the 2018 European Choir Tour Trip expenses.
  • If a student raises over the required amount, the funds received over and above that amount remain with AFLBS and will still go towards the 2018 European Choir Tour Trip expenses.

Please pray for us in all aspects of this trip, especially the planning, the sharing of the Gospel, good health and safety, the finances, and the learning of the new music. We value your partnership with us in this adventure, and we thank you for your prayers. Please visit www.aflbs.org/concertchoir throughout the year for information and updates.

In Christ,

Mr. Andrew Hanson,
Music Director
